City Boards and Commissions

The Columbus Public Utility Commission, city school board, Parks & Recreation, city zoning, and all the rest. Who are they and when/where do they meet? What do they do, and just who are the members?

MyColumbus.net is attempting to compile a list of the many boards and commissions in the city and county governments and will post it here
On first inquiry, it appears most of these boards and commissions have no set meeting times, and little consideration is given to informing the public of the sporadic schedules they have.
In most cases, the extent of these groups' attempts to advise citizens of planned meetings is a piece of paper taped or tacked to the door of a building or room somewhere in the city.
The usual standard operational procedure for these groups is to shun public involvement in their workings, and to avoid citizen input at all costs. Violations of the Mississippi State Open Meeting Law are supposedly rampant among city boards and commissions, with the worst offenders being the city school board and the city utility board.
In spite of the opposition being expressed by board members and city administration, as much information as possible will be posted as soon as it comes in.
